2013 was the year to celebrate 75 years of the country’s favourite comic, down at Beantown on the Southbank. A big collaborative project between DC Thompson, Hemingway Design, Joule and Southbank Centre gave the public a fantastic installation of all things Beano related. As project managers, Joule had to liaise with designers, archivists, builders, furniture makers, graphic designers and printers, as well a managing a large build team.
The highlights of the installation included an exhibition on the history of Beano, a prank area, a café, a shop, a Beanotown library, a photobooth and dressing up area and plenty of prank sound effects. It was a fun playground for both adults and kids to enjoy. Joule also programmed a summer of workshops every weekend for the public related around comics involving The Cartoon Museum and Aardman Animations.
